Building the Parts of the CAC Boomerang - The Jigs
Wooden fuselage coverings being manufactured in wooden jigs. The shells have spruce stringers and coachwood ply skinning. This then had fabric applied over top. Metal edging allowed the attachment of other metal panels. Doors are alloy.
A section of wooden fuselage covering used in an experiment to establish the effects of combat damage. The shell was taken to a gunnery range and sprayed with bullets from a Thompson sub-machine gun to view the resultant damage. Holes can be seen through the shell and in some cases through tubes of the frame.
CAC jigs for building ailerons. Completed wings are at the rear.
CAC Rudder Jig. Rather primitive.
CAC staff making rudders, elevators, and ailerons at front. Centre Section tank bay door frames being built in top left.
